Press Release from http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/release.php?id=149 :
The Russian Prince of Turntables comes true with his second long-player, emphasising his brilliance as a hip-hop producer.
A large rappertoire of performers queue to lay silky vocal skills over the immense selection of beats and soundscapes emerging from Vadim's imagination. The list of performers guesting on this long-player reads like a dream-team of talent, from outstanding tracks from the likes of the brilliant Sarah Jones and Blade, genre classics such as the track featuring Motion Man, Mucho Muchacho laying down a track in Spanish to older Vadim runners such as A-side, and others such as Iriscience & DJ Primecuts, Swollen
Members, Blurum... the list goes on. Vadim's skill as a producer is second-to-none, coaxing the best out of his artists as he bids us travel deeper into that exclusive territory where his mind meets his extensive record collection, and deep beats grace funky samples.
Vadim is truly a producer in his own class, taking you to places no hip-hopper has taken you before; in Vadim's hands, the listening experience has moved from head-nodding to spine-tingling. Check tracks like 'The Terrorist' for hip-hop at its very best.
Vads is one of the prime exponents of the cut-up pastiche. Not least on the menu are the various skits laced through the meal, where the DJ's interest in the obscure keeps the groove moving more like a film laced with adverts, the skits acting as a humorous refrain from the intensity of the music.
Like '3 feet high and Rising', 'Life from the Other Side' may cross that boundary few hip-hop plates have crossed, where sheer brilliance and musical genius combine to make the genre accessible to those whom hip-hop passes by.
Warning - this album also features an alarming number of Clangers...
