DJ Food return to the fray after their critically-acclaimed ‘Kaleidoscope’ album with a super-conceptual four tracker on clear vinyl.
Let Strictly Kev himself guide you through it:
"The 'Quadraplex EP' is a companion piece to the Kaleidoscope LP, consisting of a suite of 4 tracks built around the same key elements and recorded at the same time as the album. The suite was mainly made from the sounds of glass being blown, tapped and rubbed and was originally a 3 part piece called
Triplex (a type of glass with 3 layers) but so much material was generated we decided to make a 4th part, hence the name 'Quadraplex'.
"There are 3 distinct movements: the intro (Hour Glass), the main theme (Looking Glass) and the ending (Shattered Glass). Ambient glass sounds form a melody which builds into a polyrhythmic african percussion workout interweaved with electronic feedback (that'll fool 'em on the dancefloor).Things get pretty heavy on the 4th part (Monocle) as we got a bit upset and started really going over the top with the feedback switch. Then I got on the drum edits and PC on the delay switch and it was all over...
"Make of it what you will and then practise trying to play the melody at parties by rubbing the edge of your wine glass - oh yes!"
